GREETINGS IN 2008 !

As this is the first website update of 2008, please accept huge apologies for our absence this year! We're unable to go into precise details, but the past six months have been extremely hard and stressful for us, and we've had little time to concentrate on Cyclobe or any other creative activities. However, we're overjoyed to say that we can now, at last, re-focus on the future of Phantomcode and Cyclobe, and re-engage with what's really important. Below are a few items of news for you - we will soon be updating again, with some exciting developments regarding Ossian's recent and upcoming activities.

Best wishes to you all and thank-you for your continued interest and support.Slowly but surely crawling out of the shadows...

CYCLOBE IN MYSPACE

We have recently entered into the bizarre world of friend collecting, with a semi-official Myspace page beautifully designed, maintained and moderated by our very talented and antlered new friend, Andrew Wilson. This myspace page houses previously unseen photographs of Cyclobe, free audio, including a recording of Frostflowers for Mikkel Gaup, originally released on the vinyl-only compilation album Electrically Induced Vibrations on Anomalous Records. It also has its own blog for news relating to our activities. We will be working with Andrew to air some otherwise previously unheard Cyclobe recordings on the page, including alternate mixes and tasters of new 'in process' material. (Note: Strangely there seems to be another Cyclobe myspace which has absolutely nothing to do with us except in name!)

Please visit: www.myspace.com/bestialcelestial

PHANTOMCODE ARCHIVE AUCTIONS

Some of you will already be aware that we've been auctioning a number of items from our archive on eBay over the last few months. These consist mainly of Coil rarities, posters, test pressings, signed records etc., but also include rare Cyclobe items, United Dairies releases, and Current 93/Durtro Press collectibles. We will continue to hold similar auctions on a regular basis for the next few months. If you're interested in viewing any of these items please search for our sales on eBay: our personal seller's ID is 'phantomcode'.

STEPHEN THROWER & DAVID KNIGHT COLLABORATION

Work is almost complete on a new collaborative recording project between Stephen Thrower and David Knight. With saxophone, clarinet, analogue synth and guitars setting sail across Krautrock's eeriest subterranean lake, this forthcoming album should be a night-time trip to savour. Further details will be posted here in the next couple of months.

David Knight is highly regarded for his work with Danielle Dax, most notably the wonderful Jesus Egg that Wept, as well as his long-time collaboration with Karl Blake, Shock Headed Peters. He has also released two excellent studio albums under the name Arkkon. Recently he's provided live musical backing for Lydia Lunch, and is (with Stephen) a regular member of The Amal Gamal Ensemble.

COIL - APE OF NAPLES & LIVE IN PORTO

Downloads are currently available from the Threshold House website of a live concert recorded in Porto, Portugal in 2003. This was a unique and peculiar evening given that Johnn Balance was not present due to bad health. COIL on this occasion were Peter Christopherson, Thighpaulsandra and Ossian Brown.

Meanwhile, the beautifully produced 4x LP boxset of The Ape Of Naples, released by Important Records, has already sold out.

Stephen's recent book about American independent horror films, Nightmare USA, is now into its 2nd hardback edition, with a paperback edition to be published in the Autumn. (The new hardback edition is available direct from the FAB Press website at www.fabpress.com ). Response from fans and critics has been overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic, with rave reviews in Film Comment, Fangoria, Video Watchdog and Fortean Times, culminating in Stephen receiving a nomination from the British Fantasy Society, for Best Non Fiction Book. The result will be announced at this year's Fantasycon, held from 19th-to-21st September 2008. For more details please visit www.britishfantasysociety.org

ZIBAHKHANA [HELL'S GROUND] DVD RELEASE

Pakistan's first gore film Zibahkhana (aka Hell's Ground), directed by Omar Ali Khan, has now been released on DVD by TLA, as part of their 'Danger After Dark' series. While Pakistan's film industry produced a handful of supernaturally themed horror films, mainly in the 1960s, this marks the first time that Western levels of violence and horror have emerged from within its borders. Written and produced by film journalist turned DVD entrepreneur Pete Tombs, it marks the film production debut of his well-respected Mondo Macabro company. Stephen Thrower composed the films's electronic soundtrack in 2007, and Cyclobe listeners may also notice a key scene scored to a version of Strix Nebulosa from The Visitors album! (The film also features a wonderfully boisterous selection of Pakistani pop music from the 1970s.)

CYCLOBE MUSIC USED ON BBC COMEDY SHOW: IDEAL

Those of you watching the BBC comedy production Ideal will probably have been startled to hear the occasional Cyclobe song turning up as part of the show's eclectic soundtrack. So far, Strange Hotel, Inevitable Black Horn and Strix Nebulosa have been used in this strange and unique show, along with Steve's track Wrim Wram Wrom, from the Coil album Stolen and Contaminated Songs. Written and produced by Graham Duff, who also selects the music, Ideal centres around a dope dealer played by comedian and comic actor Johnny Vegas, whose flat is used as a crash-pad for various Boschian characters from the acid fringes of British lunacy. Featuring a recent guest appearance by city hobgoblin Mark E Smith (who else?) as Christ, Ideal is fantastically funny, grottily surreal, and highly recommended.

MATMOS LIVE AND STUDIO

Stephen was once again very pleased to lend his lungs to the mellifluous machinations of Matmos, this time for a three-hour improvised set at the Beaconsfield Art Centre in London - day two of a three-day event which also saw Matmos welcome Chris and Cosey to the stage. Steve has worked several times with Matmos, contributing live sax and clarinet, and he appears on a number of studio recordings, most recently Public Sex For Boyd McDonald from their excellent album, The Rose Has Teeth in the Mouth of a Beast.

LIGHT BOX - IMAGINING OCTOBER SCREENING

Derek Jarman's rarely screened short film Imaging October was shown continuously for two months at Tate Britain, London, between the 5th April to 1st June. Stephen appeared in the film playing a Russian soldier, alongside the painter Peter Doig and a number of other actors. The film was shot in 1984 with a soundtrack by Benjamin Britten and additional music by Genesis P Orridge and Dave Ball. It marked Stephen's first involvement with Derek: he recorded the soundtrack for The Angelic Conversation with Coil later the same year, and can briefly be seen in the later films Caravaggio and The Last of England.

AMAL GAMAL ENSEMBLE RELEASE "TRANSITIONAL RECORDINGS" ON LIMITED EDITION CD

While preparing for their recent appearance at Jean Hervé Peron's Schiphorst Avant-Garde Festival (see below), The Amal Gamal Ensemble compiled a CDR of material from their 'work in progress' files, to be sold at the event. Further copies of the disc are now available, for a limited time only, through this website.

The line-up is as follows: Karl Blake (bass & treatments); Dave Knight (guitar & treatments); Gavin Mitchell (synthesizer & tapes); Orlando (organ & piano); David Smith (drums & percussion); Stephen Thrower (synthesizer & software). The disc, which lasts approximately 32 minutes, features four tracks: End of Free Recovery ; Blues for Black Shuck ; Shawtburst ; and Longate .

The music on this disc was initially made in the summer of 2006, during a twelve-hour recording session which yielded almost three hours of improvised material. Since then, it has been subject to mutation, mixing, production and editing; a process not yet finished, but which the band feel has already yielded exciting results. The four songs featured may or may not be destined for the first Amal Gamal album; nevertheless, in the meantime they shed some light on the working process of the group, and hint at what is to come.

Visit our merchandise page if you'd like to obtain a copy. This edition is limited to 100 copies and is available on a strictly first come first served basis.

CYCLOBE CONCERT NEWS:

Preparations for Cyclobe's debut live performance at the Donau Festival in Krems, Austria, are currently underway, with the show lined up for the 20th April in the beautiful Minoritenkirche Church. We can now say that we'll be performing alongside the wonderful Baby Dee and Sun O))). Sun O))) having been added to the bill after Marc Almond sadly had to cancel his appearance. The evening will commence at 6pm with our performance opening a series of four sessions curated by David Michael Tibet. Among his choices are Matmos, Nurse With Wound, Bonny Prince Billy, Om, Pantaleimon, Little Annie, and of course Current 93. The umbrella title for this year's festival is 'Dangerous Games'. Also added to the festivities, but appearing the following weekend are Throbbing Gristle, so this festival really is going to be a wonderful gathering. We will be joined for this performance by our friends Thighpaulsandra (synthesizers) and Cliff Stapleton (Hurdy Gurdy). Both artists played with us on the Paraparaparalellogrammatica album, while Thighpaulsandra co-produced part of The Visitors which Cliff appeared on too, albeit in spirit form. We're also very happy to say that we'll be incorporating works by the London based filmmaker Anna Thew, a friend and experimental artist with whom we have collaborated in the past.

We'd like to thank everyone who came along, and apologize for the later than advertised appearance, which unfortunately was beyond our control.

FEBUARY 2004

We'd like to thank everyone for all the positive feedback and interest we've received since launching the new website, our thanks also goes to those of you who bought our new single and the limited edition Death Bed DVD which have now both sold out.
We're about to embark on the last of our sessions for the as yet untitled 3rd Cyclobe album which we hope will be completed and released around September this year, distributed by World Serpent.
We're also working on a mail-order CD release containing extracts from Cyclobean improvisational sessions... recordings in phantom code. A lot of our fully completed pieces originate from these sessions, but not all the improvisations have been moulded into compositions - some of the looser remaining passages are enjoyable in their own right and it's these that we intend to release via the web-site. As soon as we have more information we'll be in touch. Finally, the 'under construction' gallery section will be updated very shortly.

Enjoy the coming of Spring, it's nearly with us!

Bestness to you all

PATHFINDER 7" SINGLE
The new Pathfinder single is available now for pre-order in our merchandise section. We have a VERY limited number of this 7" vinyl release, only 50 in total, so if you'd like a copy we advise you to order quickly. Please indicate whether you prefer black or white vinyl (this will of course depend on what's left).

DEATHBED DVD with LTD CYCLOBE CDR
To accompany the signed DVD release of DEATH BED we've decided to include a limited edition CDR of the complete title music: a radically different, extended and reworked recording of 'Each and Every Word Must Die' from the first Cyclobe album LUMINOUS DARKNESS. Sadly we only have a few copies of the DVD so we're making this available in an edition of 32 copies only.

VAL DENHAM
Cyclobe would like to welcome the wonderful and painfully talented Val Denham who's been working with us on a number of beautiful, exciting and uniquely strange artworks for Phantomcode releases due in 2004. Val's artwork corresponds brilliantly with some of the new material we've been working on and we're over the moon, to say the least, with the atmosphere of the combined results. Two of Val's other artworks can be found on this website.

WEBSITE
A Huge thank-you goes to James Mannox for all his time, work and patience on the designing of this new Website/Cyclobian environment for us. We'd also like to thank all at Brainwashed for their continued support and work on the Cyclobe Brainwashed site which is still up and running at www.brainwashed.com/cyclobe. Worm regards to Jim Woodring for his magnificent Flesh Worm! And of course our Love and thanks to the beautiful Val Denham.

NURSE WITH WOUND/CYCLOBE
We're now pleased to announce that our collaboration with Nurse With Wound is completed, and due for release early 2004. Provisionally titled ANGRY EELECTRIC FINGER, it's to be a triple album/CD box set release: NWW collaborations with Jim O'Rourke and Irr. App. (Ext) will inhabit the other two discs. The Cyclobe/Nurse With Wound disc totals 55 minutes of wet slathered entrails, 10,000 year old deep-sea sponges oscillating under frozen oceans, and progressive psycho-sonics... Assisting Cyclobe on this release are Thighpaulsandra (special bells) and Cliff Stapleton (Hurdy Gurdy). The five new pieces are at present living under the title 'Who is This Who is Coming?' but this may change before release.

GROW ANTLERS!
